The owners of this large garden wanted to create a contemporary entertainment area which they wanted to be able to access from their indoor pool area and all the other rooms facing the garden.
We designed a deck outside the kitchen dining room which used a Millboard in the same colour as the timber flooring in the kitchen to create a continuous look through to the outside. A gently curved raised and rendered planter with integrated steps to the upper garden was planted with a row of lavender to border the deck, which narrows to a path along the side of the house to maximise the lawn area.
The deck meets the lounge patio where a large, raised water feature was removed and the rock and basin reused to create an in-ground feature bordering the house. In order to cover the colour variation in the brickwork where existing lean-to structures were removed, we added slatted screens, one of which forms the backdrop to the water feature and is grazed by uplighting at night.
Existing paving and steps were replaced by smooth sawn sandstone and in-ground beds repeat the curved corner introduced by the outline of the deck. A combination of box balls and grasses in combination with a multi-stem Amelanchier and Japanese Acer create an instant planting scheme and blend well with the existing roses the owner wanted to keep.
